About Me

Formerly Millicent Harris, I am a native of Gwinnett County and grew up in Lawrenceville.  I attended Dyer Elementary, Lawrenceville Middle and Central Gwinnett High School.  My family has a long history in Gwinnett County and it makes me very proud to teach in the school system in which I grew up in as well as following other family members.

Upon graduating from high school, I went straight to the University of Georgia, which is the only college I ever wanted to attend!  However, life changes and I decided to leave UGA after only one quarter to follow a boy to Western Carolina University.  After spending two years there, I moved to the Piedmont Triad area of North Carolina where I attended school for one semester at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and then finally finished my last two years at Catawba College in Salisbury, NC.

I graduated college with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management, Communication Arts and Information Systems.  I thought that I would spend my life wearing a business suit and heels to an office job everyday.  But, life continues to change and this is where someone really special in my life talked me in to becoming a teacher.

I started my teaching career in 2000 working as a Business Education teacher in Rowan-Salisbury Schools in North Carolina and gained my teaching certificate in Business Education.  Then, in 2002, it was time to move back "home", so I came back to Gwinnett County and took residence in Buford.  I was not able to get a teaching job within my field right away, so I went to work as a staff accountant for a national distribution business.

I was hired at Lanier Middle in 2004 as a Computer Science teacher and remained there until my move to NGMS this year.  This year, I serve as the Captain of the Relay For Life team and also sponsor the student club.

It is my passion to teach middle school students about business and computers.  It is so exciting to me to see students learning skills that have real life meaning .

Oh, and that boy I ran off to school with?  He is now my husband, Matt Henson, of 15 years.  He is a Language Arts teacher at Parkview High School where he also coaches football and is the Head Track Coach.  We have 2 children.  Chase is 13 and he attends the 8th grade Osborne Middle School and Riley Jane is 9 and is in the 3rd grade at Duncan Creek Elementary.

In my free time, I enjoy reading (Nicholas Sparks is one of my favorites), watching college football and going to the gym.  I  also teach Sunday School to elementary aged children.
